Hello loyal food consumers! I know we’ve let you down by not posting anything in awhile but we’re back and ready to share some tasty recipes.
Last Sunday I had the afternoon off work. So I decided to spend my free time in the kitchen. In preparation for My 28-Day Get Fit Body Cleanse, which you can follow on my other blog, Simply Jessica Kate, I cooked up some protein staples for the week. One of them was my homemade Spinach Turkey Burger.
I’m not a huge fan of red meat or big, fatty burgers so I opted to make a burger with ground turkey. My Spinach Turkey Burger is a great way to add protein to your diet without all the saturated fat that comes along with a beef. Put it between two slices of whole grain bread with spinach and tomato and you’ve got yourself a scrumptious and healthy burger.
WHAT YOU NEED:
– 1/2 lb. Ground Turkey (I prefer organic when cooking with meat.)
– 2 tbsp. Onion, diced
– 1 Garlic Clove
– A handful of fresh Spinach
– 1 egg
– A dash of Worcestershire sauce
– 1/4 cup of Bread Crumbs (or enough to bind patties)
– A generous sprinkle of Cajun Seasoning
– A dash of Ground Black Pepper
**This recipe yields about 3 patties, depending on the size.
Dice onion and set aside.
Crush garlic clove and set aside. If you don’t have a garlic mincer, chop garlic until finely diced.
Chop up fresh spinach and set aside.
Place the ground turkey in a large mixing bowl.
Add a dash of black pepper to the mixing bowl.
Add a generous sprinkle of Cajun seasoning to the ground turkey.
Pour a dash of Worcestershire sauce into the mixing bowl.
Add chopped spinach to the mixture.
Add the crushed garlic to the mixing bowl.
Add the diced onion to the mixture.
Then crack the egg into the mixing bowl.
With clean hands, mix together the contents of the bowl.
After combining the ingredients in the bowl, add the bread crumbs. Mix the bread crumbs in with clean hands. If the mixture isn’t binding together, add more bread crumbs and re-combine.
When you’ve reached the right consistency, separate the mixture in thirds and create 3 turkey burger patties with your hands.
After patties are formed, grab a saute pan and pour in enough olive oil to lightly coat the pan. Set burner to medium heat and place turkey burger patties in the pan.
It should take about 10-15 minutes to cook the patties. Cook thoroughly and don’t forget to flip the burgers halfway through.
Remove from the pan and enjoy!
My Spinach Turkey Burgers are also wonderful cooked on grill, served with or without a bun. Feel free to get creative with this recipe, as well. Add some jalapenos to mixture for a little spice or throw in some sun-dried tomatoes for an Italian feel. However you make them, they’re great for the health-conscious and taste delicious too!
