Consume Yourself: Cauliflower Buffalo Wings

Cauliflower Buffalo Wings

Recently, I gave up eating red meat and poultry. (For further reading on my decision to give up meat, see my other blog, Simply Jessica Kate.) In the world of food consumption, I now identify myself as a Pescatarian, or fish eater. I’m not big fan of red meat anyways so the transition has been smooth.

One thing I do miss, however, is a good old Buffalo Wing. In order to satisfy my sauce-soaked chicken craving, I found a recipe for Spicy Buffalo Cauliflower Wings on PETA‘s website.

Although they’ll never be a chicken wing, the Buffalo Cauliflower is a delicious and healthy way to eat something smothered in wing sauce. And it’s even vegan!

– 1 cup of Water or Soy Milk

– 1 cup of Flour (I used the whole wheat version.)

– 2 tsp. of Garlic Powder, or minced garlic

– 1 head of Cauliflower, chopped into pieces

– 1/2 cup of Hot Sauce

– 1 tbsp. of Olive Oil

Preheat oven to 450 degrees and gather ingredients.

Place water (or soy milk), flour and garlic into a bowl.

Flour Mixture

Stir until well combined.

Coat the cauliflower with the flour mixture.

Then place in a baking dish and cook for 18 minutes.

While the cauliflower is in the oven, prepare your buffalo sauce. Put the hot sauce and olive into a bowl.

Buffalo Sauce Ingredients

Mix the two ingredients together.

After the 18 minutes is up, remove cauliflower from oven and pour the hot sauce on top of it.

Place back in oven and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Remove from the oven and serve!

Finished Cauliflower

I prefer them served with some Blue Cheese dressing and carrot sticks.

This was my second time making this recipe, so I modified it a bit from the original PETA recipe. It calls for a cup of hot sauce but I cut it in half because it was too spicy the first time around.

I also made some topped with BBQ sauce instead of buffalo sauce. Delicious!

Veggies for life.

  1. Yum, that looks good. I also miss meat now and then, but posts like yours help me through it. Thank you :)

  2. So much better baked than fried! I am not a buffalo person, but this would be great with some many other sauces – pesto perhaps?
